Android 2.0 and 2.1: Eclair
Android 2.0 was released in October 2009, with a bugfix version (2.0.1) coming out in December 2009. Android 2.1 was released January of 2010. Most people consider them a single release. Added features include Bluetooth 2.1 support, flash, and digital zoom for the camera, multi-touch support, live wallpapers, and more. Eclairs are usually described as oblong cream puffs. They are baked pastries with cream filling and chocolate coating on top. Following are the features of Eclair.
- Expanded Account sync, allowing users to add multiple accounts to synchronization of email and contacts.
- Microsoft Exchange email support, with the combined inbox to browse through multiple accounts on one page.
- Bluetooth 2.1 support.
- Ability to tap a contact photo and select to call, SMS, or email the person.
- Ability to search all saved SMS and MMS messages, with oldest messages in a conversation automatically deleted.
- Numerous new camera features, including flash support, digital zoom, scene mode, white balance, color effect and macro focus.
- Improved typing speed on the virtual keyboard, with the smarter dictionary that includes learning words and suggestions as contact names.
- Refreshed browser UI with bookmark thumbnails, double-tap zoom, and support for HTML5.
- Calendar invitation for the event viewing, and the invitation to new guests to events.
- Optimized hardware speed and revamped UI.
- Support for more screen sizes and resolutions, with a better contrast ratio.
- Improved Google Maps 3.1.2.
- Motion Event class enhanced to track multi-touch events.
- Addition of live wallpapers, allowing the animation of home-screen background.
